Relying on independent innovation as the strategic pivot for corporate growth, Sun Paper has constructed a complete S&T innovation system, become a national key high-tech enterprise and owns high-level research and innovation platforms such as postdoctoral research stations, academician workstations, a national enterprise technology center, posts for Mt. Tai Scholars, Shandong Province Pulp & Paper Engineering Research Center, and Shandong Province Synergic Innovation Center for “Clean Production and Refining of Bio-Based Products for Light Industrial Use”. Sun Paper has attracted a large number of high-tech professionals with its favorable research environment and strong technological strength. So far it has partnered up with several academicians and doctors, recruited 87 senior professionals and over 586 specialists in various fields, and formed a reasonably structured, tiered talent team composed of talents of various sorts, laying a solid foundation for the company to sustain its strength in S&T innovation and leading position in the Chinese papermaking industry. Sun Paper attaches extreme importance to the construction and improvement of the technological innovation mechanism. 



Oriented towards technological innovation, it has built a technological innovation system with vertical and horizontal linkage and interaction, extended its technological innovation mechanism outside and formed the innovation network structure linking “the market – businesses – universities – research institutes” and also “domestic and overseas resources”. It has fostered long-term partnership with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China National Pulp and Paper Research Institute, Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, South China University of Technology, and Qilu University of Technology at home, and ANDRITZ, Valmet, VOITH and UNB abroad to speed up the commercialization of latest research results. It has undertaken dozens of research projects under the National 863 Program (“System Development and Application Research for the Production Line of Paper Package Handling Robots”), National Water Pollution Control and Treatment Science and Technology Major Project (“Demonstration of the Commercialization of the Deep Wastewater Processing Technology in the Papermaking Industry”), 



National Key Technology R&D Program for the 11th and 12th Five-Year Plan periods (“R&D and Industrial Application of the High-Yield Pulp Making Technology”– during the 11th Five-Year Plan period;“150,000t/y alkaline peroxide mechanical pulp production demonstration project with zero black liquor discharge”, and “30,000m3/d mixed wastewater recycling demonstration project for papermaking terminals”– during the 12th Five-Year Plan period), projects commissioned by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Finance and major projects of Shandong Provincial People’s Government (“Key Technologies and Demonstration of Mainstream Biomass Component Separation and Higher-Value Application in the Papermaking Industry”).
